Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan
Ghibli Museum tickets: when they go on sale
On the 10th of each month at 10:00 Japan time, for every day of the following month, and only online through Lawson Ticket. Nothing is sold at the museum, and weekend slots go first.
- When does booking open?
- The 10th of each month, 10:00 JST, for the whole next month. 10 October at 10:00 JST opens every day from 1 to 30 November, and so on.
- How far ahead is that?
- 3 to 7 weeks ahead.
- Where do I book?
- Online only, through Lawson Ticket (its English site if you are booking from abroad), or an official Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour from Tokyo that includes entry.
- Does it sell out?
- Weekend, holiday and peak-season slots are reported to go within minutes to hours of the release; some weekday slots last longer. There is no official figure, and sales stay open until each slot starts, so a weekday can still be bought later.
- Can I cancel or change?
- No refunds and no changes to the name, date or time once bought. Lost or stolen tickets are not reissued.

How to book
Tickets are sold only by Lawson Ticket, online. From abroad, use Lawson Ticket’s English site; the Japanese site needs a Lawson WEB membership and a Japanese mobile number for its text message check. The other official way in from abroad is a Sunrise Tours (JTB) day tour from Tokyo that includes museum entry.
From November 2026 entries, the museum uses a new QR ticket: an e-ticket shown in your phone’s browser (no app), or a paper ticket printed at a Lawson store’s Loppi machine, with a 110 yen fee per ticket. Adults pay 1,000 yen, ages 13 to 18 pay 700, ages 7 to 12 pay 400 and ages 4 to 6 pay 100; under 4 is free and needs no ticket.
Entry slots start on the hour from 10:00 to 16:00. Arrive within an hour of your slot, then stay until closing. The museum is closed every Tuesday and on other days on its calendar.
If it’s sold out
Keep checking Lawson Ticket: sales run until each slot starts, so places can come back. From abroad, the Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour from Tokyo includes entry and is sold separately.
There is no official resale, and resold tickets are refused at the door.
Booking for a group
One Lawson account can buy once a month, up to 6 tickets. Every ticket carries the buyer’s name, and the whole party enters together with that person, so the buyer must be one of the visitors.
A group of 7 or more needs a second buyer who is also visiting, on their own account. Buying for people you are not going with is not allowed.
Good to know
- Buy with the account of someone who is going: their name is on every ticket and they may be asked for ID (a passport, for visitors) at the door.
- Be logged in before 10:00 JST on the 10th. Weekend slots go first.
- Take an early slot: you can stay until closing, and you must arrive within an hour of the slot.
- Check the museum’s calendar before you build a day around it: it closes every Tuesday and on some other days.
