Gyukatsu Motomura: what to order, and when to go

Updated

Gyukatsu Motomura fries the cutlet medium rare, then finishes it on a stone plate. The Shibuya and Shinjuku shops checked for this page are open 11:00 to 22:00, and the last order is 21:30. The same company has shops in Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka. This page covers the Shibuya, Shinjuku and Osaka branches people search for, and links the official list for the rest.

The address in the page data is the Shibuya main shop, Ohno Building No. 2, B1F, 3-18-10 Shibuya. It is one branch, not the only one.

What to order

The official menu says the cutlet is fried medium rare, then seared on a stone plate, with sauces and rock salt. The same page calls the finish a sizzling stone plate. It does not say whether the kitchen or the table does that last sear, so this page does not claim that you cook it yourself.

The set meals on that page are all 130g of gyukatsu:

There is also a gyukatsu ago dashi chazuke, described as medium rare cutlet in a flying fish broth, and a beef tongue katsu set. One rice refill is free. Cabbage and miso soup refills are 100 yen. If you ordered a set, you can ask for extra gyukatsu. Ask if you need more wasabi soy sauce. Elderly guests and children can have it fully cooked. The page says beef fat is added, and hot or cold tea is there if you ask. Prices and the menu can differ by shop.

What it costs

The menu page prints no yen figure for the sets, only the 100 yen refill, and it says prices may vary by location. Checked 22 October 2026.

The Shibuya booking page did print three set prices that day, for three side dishes: 130g at 2,110 yen, 195g at 2,810 yen, and 260g at 3,290 yen. The page does not say whether tax is included. The 1 side and 2 side sets have no yen on the menu page, so they are not given a price here. Treat the booking page figures as Shibuya's, that month, not as a national menu.

The queue, and whether you can book

The reservation page says the shops get busy at peak hours and recommends a reservation if you want guaranteed seating. No wait in minutes is published, and no quieter hour is named. Opening at 11:00 is the best time those pages support.

That "guaranteed seating" line does not match the Shibuya booking page, read the same day. Its venue message says choosing a time lets them seat you with priority, that it is not a table reservation, and that a wait can still happen when it is busy. On that page the other rules are: at least one adult, a seat request may not be met, more than 5 minutes late is a cancellation, guests aged 6 and older must order a set, booking is online only, and a 100 percent cancellation fee applies from 24 hours before. Seating is limited to 45 minutes, with no extension. The same screen also lists the Shibuya Annex as a venue. Those rules were read on the Shibuya page, not by opening the Annex's own form.

The Shinjuku store pages, and the Namba, Dotonbori and Namba Midosuji pages, show a Reserve button. The Shibuya main, Center Street, Annex and LUCUA store pages show a phone in that spot. Shibuya and the Annex still have the booking page above. A Kyoto shop on the reservation list, Shinkyogoku, says reservations are not accepted. Read the shop's own page before you count on a table.

Hours and the branches

Hours below were read on each store page on 22 October 2026. The official site lists more shops than these. The footer names Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka.

Shibuya

Shinjuku

All four are open 11:00 to 22:00, last order 21:30, with no closing day listed.

Osaka

There is no separate Osaka page. These four were open when checked. The reservation list also has Umeda EST and other Kansai shops.

What to expect

You are ordering a set built around one cutlet, not a steakhouse menu. The default is medium rare, with a fully cooked option if you ask for an older guest or a child. Rice refills once for free. The stone plate is part of how the menu describes the dish. The official pages do not say whether the shop takes cash or cards, so carry both and ask. If you booked at Shibuya, plan on 45 minutes in the seat.

If it is packed

Ichiran Shibuya is a different meal: one tonkotsu ramen, a ticket machine, and a solo booth, with both Shibuya stores listed as open 24 hours. It is not a backup for the same dish.

Where it sits in a trip

The 7 day, 10 day and 14 day Japan itineraries, the 5 days in Tokyo, and the solo Japan guide all pass through Shibuya or Shinjuku. Shibuya Sky is the timed ticket on those Shibuya afternoons. Gyukatsu is the meal on either side of it, not the view.
