Athens Marathon registration: when it opens
About six months before the November race, online. For the 2026 race on 8 November, registration opened on 24 April 2026 and all 25,000 marathon places were gone in under 36 hours. The 2027 dates are not announced yet.

- About six months before race day, online. In 2026 registration opened on Friday 24 April for a race on 8 November. The opening hour was not published. The organiser says the event is held every second weekend of November, but the 2027 race date and opening date are not announced yet; if the pattern holds, expect late April 2027. - Where do I book?
- On the official site, athensauthenticmarathon.gr, paying by debit or credit card straight after the form. Runners from abroad can register.
- Does it sell out?
- Strong official evidence. In 2026 the organiser said the 15,000 cheaper advanced (also called enhanced) marathon places went in about six hours on opening day, and all 25,000 marathon places in under 36 hours. The 10km race also sold out on opening day, and every race showed as sold out by 15 October 2026.
- Can I cancel or change?
- In 2026, cancellation by email until 25 September, refunded minus 5 EUR (advanced) or 15 EUR (full); charity donations are not refunded. No refunds after that, and no moving an entry to a later year. Until the same date, an entry could be passed to a new runner through the organiser for 5 EUR.

How to book
Fill in the form on athensauthenticmarathon.gr and pay by card straight away, or the entry is cancelled. Confirmation arrives within 7 business days.
There are two levels. Advanced is only for citizens and permanent residents of an EU country; runners from outside the EU can enter only at the full level. Once advanced places are gone, new entries move to the full level. 2026 fees: marathon 75 EUR advanced or 165 EUR full; 10km 45 or 90 EUR; 5km 40 or 85 EUR; 5km universities night run 25 or 45 EUR; kids' race free.
Registration closes when a race is full, or on 25 September at the latest. In 2026 marathon runners had to be born in 2006 or earlier, 10km runners in 2011 or earlier and 5km runners in 2014 or earlier. The universities night run is only for students with a valid student ID or ISIC card, and academic staff.
If it’s sold out
Try a shorter race. When the 2026 marathon sold out, the organiser said full-level places in the 5km and places in the universities night run (students and academic staff only) were still open; they later sold out too.
If a registered runner you know cannot go, they can ask the organiser to replace them with you, before the deadline (25 September in 2026, for 5 EUR). That is the only allowed way to take over an entry: bibs are personal, may not be handed on, and are checked against ID at pickup.
Clubs and companies of 30 or more can ask the organiser's group registration department for places, which are reserved before public registration opens.
Booking for a group
One order can hold up to four marathon entries. Each runner is entered with their own details, and nobody may register twice for the same race. Under-18s, in the shorter races, are registered by a parent or guardian.
A group of at least 30 people can request reserved places by email before registration opens (the 2026 deadline was 23 April) and gets 5 EUR off each entry; a team manager handles changes. Runners who want to start together can ask to share a starting block, which puts them in the slowest runner's block.
Good to know
- Have every runner's details and a card ready before registration opens, and fill in up to four marathon entries per order.
- Budget for the full level if anyone in the group is not an EU citizen or resident.
- A full-level marathon entry gives priority access to the full level the next year, useful if your group plans to return.
